Many owners of pre-2022 nuCamp models wonder whether they can upgrade to lithium batteries. While lithium batteries can technically work with older units, there are important considerations to keep in mind.
Charging Limitations in Pre-2022 Models
Older nuCamp models were not factory-equipped for lithium batteries. The WFCO Power Center used in pre-2022 units operates at a voltage that does not fully charge lithium batteries, typically reaching only about 80%-90% capacity. To fully optimize lithium battery performance, you will need to upgrade the charging system.
Proper Lithium Battery Charging
Lithium batteries should be charged using a LiFePO4-compatible charger. While a Sealed Lead-Acid charger (like the one in pre-2022 models) may work, it could reduce the battery’s performance and lifespan.
Lithium-Ready Power Centers in 2022+ Models
Starting with the 2022 model year, nuCamp switched to a lithium-compatible power center. If you own an older unit and want to upgrade, your local nuCamp dealer can provide pricing and installation options for the lithium-compatible power center.

The subject of lithium is a little gray since the older units would not be equipped for lithium from factory.
