Properly winterizing your Haven 220 protects your plumbing system from freezing temperatures and prevents costly damage during storage. The process is straightforward: drain all water from the system and replace it with RV antifreeze.
Follow the step-by-step guide below to prepare your unit for winter storage.
Haven 220 Winterization Guide
Start by removing all water from your Haven 220.
- Drain the fresh water tank.
- Open and drain the gray tank.
- If anything is in the black tank, dump and rinse it before winterizing.
- Open the hot and cold low-point drains and allow the plumbing lines to fully drain.
- Once everything has completely drained, close all valves and drains before moving on.
Step 2: Drain the Alde Hot Water Tank
Your Haven 220 is equipped with the Alde Heating and Hot Water System, which includes a hot water tank that must be drained separately.
- Inside the unit, remove the dinette cushions.
- Unscrew and remove the access panel beneath the bench seating.
- Locate the Alde relief valves.
- Open the relief valves and allow the tank to fully drain.
- Once draining is complete, close the valve securely.
Step 3 (Recommended): Blow Out the Water Lines
While not required, blowing out the lines provides extra protection by removing trapped water.
- Connect an air compressor to the city water inlet.
- Set pressure to no more than 40 PSI.
- Open one faucet or fixture at a time.
- Allow air to push out any remaining water. If water is still present, you will see it spray out as air moves through the system.
Step 4: Add Antifreeze Using the Nautilus System
Now it’s time to protect the plumbing with RV antifreeze.
- Connect a short hose to the Nautilus system.
- Set the Nautilus to Winterize Mode.
- Ensure all faucets, drains, and fixtures are closed (this allows the pump to create suction).
- Place the other end of the hose into a jug of RV antifreeze.
- Turn on the water pump.
If the pump does not pull antifreeze:
- Double-check that all faucets and drains are closed.
- Try flipping the sediment filter to help keep the check valve open.
Step 5: Run Antifreeze Through All Fixtures
One at a time, run antifreeze through every water outlet until you see pink fluid.
Be sure to include both the hot and cold lines for the:
- Kitchen faucet
- Bathroom sink
- Shower
- Exterior shower
Step 6: Protect Drains and Toilet
Flush the toilet until you see antifreeze in the bowl. This ensures protection in P-traps and the toilet system.
Once complete, your Haven 220 is fully winterized and ready for storage until your next adventure. Need Assistance? If you have additional questions:
